Permanent Total Disability (PTD)

Employees who suffer the loss of both hands, both arms, both feet, both legs, both eyes, or any two thereof are entitled to lifetime weekly total disability benefits regardless of whether or not the employee has returned to work. 

Employees who qualify for permanent total disability by virtue of having suffered spinal injury involving severe paralysis of both arms, both legs, or the trunk, severe brain or head injury, or certain severe burns are entitled to lifetime weekly total disability benefits unless the employer shows by a preponderance of the evidence that the employee is capable of returning to suitable employment as defined in N.C. Gen. Stat. §97-2(22). 

All employees who qualify for permanent total disability as defined in N.C. Gen. Stat. §97-29(d) are entitled to lifetime medical compensation.
