What We Do
The Medical Fees Section reviews bills for medical services provided as a result of a workers’ compensation claim when a medical provider, employee, attorney, or carrier or employer requests assistance. Medical bills are reviewed and adjusted in accordance with the Industrial Commission’s Medical Fee Schedule and then returned to the requesting party.
The Medical Fees Section assists in resolving medical fee disputes and updates the Medical Fee Schedule annually. In accordance with N.C. Gen. Stat. §97-26(i), the Industrial Commission adopted Rule 11 NCAC 23A .0614, which outlines the Commission’s Medical Provider Fee Dispute Resolution Procedure. The Commission also has created forms that are used for this procedure, the Form 26I and the Form 33I.
Please Note:
The Medical Fees Section cannot authorize or approve medical services for an employee.
The Medical Fees Section does not reimburse employees for out-of-pocket medical expenses or mileage related to medical treatment in a workers’ compensation claim.
