Chairman Tyler Younts is pleased to announce the appointment of Elliot Engstrom as a Deputy Commissioner. Engstrom will serve in the Industrial Commission’s Charlotte office.
Engstrom is an experienced attorney with more than a decade of legal practice spanning academia, public interest, government, and the private sector. He previously served as Deputy County Attorney for Cleveland County, where his work included advising the County Manager on employment issues and representing the county in administrative and quasi-judicial matters. He also held a two-year fellowship at Elon University School of Law, teaching both administrative law and legal writing and publishing scholarship in the North Carolina Law Review and the Elon Law Review. Engstrom comes to the Industrial Commission from private practice at Sellers, Ayers, Dortch & Lyons, P.A., in Charlotte. He also served for five years on his local planning board and board of adjustment, most recently as Vice-Chairman.
Engstrom has presented on a variety of legal topics for organizations including the UNC School of Government, the North Carolina Bar Association, the South Carolina Bar Association, and the North Carolina Association of County Clerks. He earned his undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University and his J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law.
Engstrom’s six-year term begins on September 30, 2026.
