Mary Claire Brown was appointed to serve as a Deputy Commissioner in 2018, and she was reappointed to a second term as a Deputy Commissioner effective March 10, 2024. Brown was previously in private practice with Hedrick Gardner, practicing in the fields of liability and workers' compensation.
Brown earned her undergraduate degree from the University of North Texas, and her Juris Doctor from Campbell University School of Law. During law school, she held internships or externships at the North Carolina Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals of North Carolina, and with the North Carolina Hospital Association.
