Josh D. Smith was appointed to serve as a Deputy Commissioner for the North Carolina Industrial Commission in May of 2026.
A North Carolina State Bar Board Certified Specialist in workers’ compensation law, Smith brings comprehensive, well-rounded knowledge to the Commission, having represented both plaintiffs and defendants in workers’ compensation litigation for over ten years. He also has experience representing Social Security Disability claimants at administrative law hearings.
Smith earned his undergraduate degree from North Carolina State University and his J.D. from Elon University School of Law.
