On July 5-8, North Carolina will host the 50th Annual Convention of the Southern Association of Workers' Compensation Administrators (SAWCA) at The Grove Park Inn in Asheville. Established in 1949, the SAWCA is comprised of the workers' compensation agencies of 17 states and one U.S. territory. The association's members include administrators from Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, and the Virgin Islands.

Companions will visit the Southern Highland Craft Guild Folk Art Center on the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway, home to Allanstand Craft Shop, one of Appalachia’s oldest and best-known craft shops. The Center’s museum will feature the country’s only showing of master blacksmith Samuel Yellin’s important metalworks. Thomas Wolfe’s childhood home, remembered in Look Homeward Angel and Of Time and the River, will be toured. Luncheon will be at 23 Page, an award winning restaurant with storyteller Maggie Lauterer as guest speaker. Companions may visit Asheville’s oldest store and slip their feet into something great at Tops For Shoes, which has a grand shoe selection. Companions will return to the hotel by 3:00 p.m. at the latest.

Return to Biltmore Estate where there will be a choice of seeing the wonderful gardens designed by Frederick Law Olmstead; touring the House again to discover even more treasures than on Monday night; for $9.00 (with a group of 20 or more), take the interesting "Behind the Scenes" Tour where you will see 25 rooms that are not part of the regular tour; for $11.95, take the new "Roof Top Tour" and see the incredibly gorgeous view of the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains. Then you may return to the Inn or you may lunch on your own and shop in the quaint Biltmore Village, where homes once used by Biltmore Estate workers are now specialty shops, including art and crafts galleries. Companions will return to the hotel by 3:00 p.m. at the latest.
