Assistant Attorney General Stephen T. Gheen has been selected to fill the vacant Deputy Commissioner position at the Industrial Commission, effective August 1, 2000. In addition, Mr. Gheen will be designated the "lead worker" for the Deputy Commissioner unit and will carry the working title of "Chief Deputy Commissioner."
Steve Gheen holds a BA in History/Political Science and a Master of Arts in History from Western Carolina University. He earned his Law Degree from North Carolina Central University and was admitted to the North Carolina Bar in 1984.
He has 16 years of legal experience, including private practice in workers compensation law. He has also been an assistant district attorney and clerk at the Court of Appeals. In addition, Mr. Gheen has management experience as Chairman of the Gaston County Elections Board, Deputy Commissioner of Insurance, and Director of Productivity for the Department of Natural Resources and Community Development (now DENR).
Mr. Gheen is a native of Cleveland County, is the father of two children, and is married to Cathy Moore, an attorney for the County of Durham.
