DEHNR Division of Epidemiology Announces
Changes in the Dusty Trades Program

On October 14, the N.C. Department of Environment, Health and Natural Resources' Division of Epidemiology announced several changes in the Dusty Trades Program. First, Patty Register has been hired as the Medical Records Clerk for the program, replacing Karon Donnelly. Ms. Register can be reached at 919-715-3332. She has been busy processing the backlog of chest x-rays that accumulated during the two months lapse in personnel.

The Division of Epidemiology also has a new mailing address. When forwarding correspondence and chest x-rays to the Dusty Trades Program, send it to:

      DEHNR, Division of Epidemiology
      Occupational & Environmental Epidemiology Section
      Dusty Trades Program
      P.O. Box 29601
      Raleigh, NC 27626-0601

Please start using this address immediately. If you are using the United Parcel Service or Federal Express to ship x-rays, the program's physical address is:

      2728 Capital Boulevard
      Raleigh, NC 27604.

There have been no changes in the programmatic aspects of the Dusty Trades Program. All x-rays should be forwarded to Patty Register. A payment of $5 (reading fee) per film, a list of employees for which payment is made, and the completed Dusty Trades Examination Record (form #2796) must accompany the film. Please include the invoice number, if applicable, on the check made payable to DEHNR, Occupational & Environmental Epidemiology. The majority of films and paperwork have been accepted as submitted. However, the program had to return some x-rays and forms or call to verify information on the examination record, which has resulted in delays in processing your films.

The main reasons for returning the forms and films include:

  1. Omission of information, such as

  2. Social security number and/or date of birth not readable

  3. Chest x-ray film missing employee's name, social security number, or date of x-ray

Please review both the form and film prior to submission to facilitate timely processing. If there have been changes in your company information, please complete the Update Form below and return it to the the Dusty Trades Program.

If you have any comments, questions, or suggestions for improvement, please contact Susan A. Randolph, MSN, RN, COHN-S, at 9l9-715-3591. Ms.Randolph is the head of the Occupational Surveillance Branch of the Occupational & Environmental Epidemiology Section.
