MEMORANDUM
TO: All Interested Parties
FROM: Chairman Buck Lattimore
DATE: April 7, 2003 [SEE June 16, 2003 Memo]
RE: Home Insurance Company
We have been informed that the Commissioner of Insurance of the State of New Hampshire has placed Home Insurance Company, a domestic New Hampshire insurer, into Rehabilitation. As of the time of this notice, the Commissioner of Insurance has not sought Liquidation of Home.
Our best current understanding is that the Superior Court of New
Hampshire has issued an Order
staying proceedings against Home Insurance for ninety days from March 5, 2003.
It is not clear that the Order of the Superior Court would suspend payment of
weekly disability or medical benefits in workers’ compensation claims. The
Industrial Commission has made inquiry to the New Hampshire Commissioner of
Insurance.
The Commissioner of Insurance has issued a press
release more fully detailing Home Insurance Company’s current condition.
The Industrial Commission is proceeding normally with workers’
compensation claims in North Carolina pending additional information from the
New Hampshire Commissioner of Insurance. If any claimant does not receive
benefits to which they are lawfully entitled or should benefits awarded be
suspended or terminated for unexplained reasons, please notify the Industrial
Commission.
Questions or concerns regarding Home Insurance claims should be directed
to: Stephen T. Gheen, Chief Deputy Commissioner, 919-807-2540 or gheen@ind.commerce.state.nc.us.
Due to the volume of inquiries, email communication is requested if possible,
though not required.
The Industrial Commission website (www.comp.state.nc.us)
will be updated as needed with additional information.
