Summary  of  Workers  Comp  Experience While  I  presently  practice  with  my  husband  in  a  small  town  ten  miles  north  of  Asheville  both  my  husband  and  I  were  shareholders  in  what  was  then  Roberts,  Stevens  &  Cogburn,  a  firm  with  approximately  twenty-five  lawyers.    We  left  that  firm  to  begin  our  own  firm  in  Weaverville  and  have  been  practicing  together  ever  since.

Up  until  the  time  I  left  Roberts,  Stevens  &  Cogburn,  my  practice  was  exclusively  defense  work.    Since  starting  a  small  firm  in  a  small  town,  I  have  also  begun  to  do  some  plaintiff's  work  in  addition  to  my  defense  work.    This  plaintiff's  practice  has  gradually  increased  to  the  point  that  I  estimate  it  now  comprises  approximately  twenty-five  percent  of  my  practice.

In  1997  and  1998,  I  participated  in  fifty  to  sixty  mediations.    In  1997,  approximately  ninety  percent  of  these  mediations  involved  representation  of  defendants.    In  1998,  approximately  eighty  percent  of  the  mediations  in  which  I  participated  involved  defense  representations.    Since  mid-1999,  I  annually  handle  approximately  the  same  number  of  mediations  as  in  the  prior  years;  however,  the  representation  of  defendants  at  mediations  is  only  slightly  greater  than  my  representation  of  plaintiffs.    I  will  mediate  cases  in  the  following  counties:        Buncombe,  Burke,  Cherokee,  Clay,  Graham,  Jackson,  Haywood,  Henderson,  Jackson,  Macon,  McDowell,  Polk,  Rutherford  and  Yancey.
